  1. Cornagague Primary School is committed to identifying and catering for the less able child.
  2. The SEN child must feel as vital a part of his class as his peers.
  3. Each class teacher will cater on a day-to-day basis for any child with special needs in their own class.  Teachers will collaborate and pool their resources to facilitate learning.
  4. An educational plan (IEP) will be drawn up by the class teacher and the co-ordinator, for those children identified as having special needs.  This plan will be discussed with the child's parents and targets agreed.
  5. As far as possible we will provide equipment and resources necessary to implement our educational plans.
  6. We have designated May as the month in which all standardised tests will be given to the whole school. The one exception is the base-line assessment which will be given to Primary One children before Hallowe'en.  However any child who is on the register may be subjected to testing at any time of the year.

Allocation of resources to and amongst pupils with Special Educational Needs.

Falling enrolment and formula funding determine our spending to a great extent.  However we remain committed to targeting the needs of the SEN child.  We are in agreement that teacher time is the best resource we could give any child.

The classroom assistant has been given 2 extra hours each week to work 1 - 1 with children who have special needs.

We also make every effort to spend the SEN budget appropriately, for eg.  Building up our standardised tests, appropriate reading materials, computer software.
