Special Needs Policy PDF Print E-mail
Our over-riding concern is to cater for the less able child.  He/She must feel as valued as the other children in the class.  Uppermost in our minds is that poor academic performance doesn't ostracise them from all other curriculum activities.  However we are committed to giving them as much attention as possible to equip them for life's challenges.

An individual teacher (Deirdre Boyle) has been appointed to have over all responsibility for those children identified as having special needs.  However all staff will share the day to day responsibility

It is our best endeavour to ensure that all children in our school follow the full N.I. curriculum.  In aiming to do so class teachers will provide appropriate differentiation in work in all the appropriate subject areas.  Let's use Science to cite an example:

The SEN pupil may be required to draw his experiments rather than write about them if in so doing his needs are better met.

The SEN co-ordinator through discussion with the class teacher will monitor the appropriateness of the curriculum for the SEN pupil.
