It is the aim of Cornagague Primary School to deliver a broad and balanced programme of work in English to every child in keeping with the requirements of the Northern Ireland Curriculum. Worthwhile experiences will be offered to each pupil according to his/her ability in the three Attainment Targets of Talking and Listening, Reading and Writing. Relevant schemes of work will be drawn up for each age group and delivered using a variety of teaching approaches and strategies. These may include Group and Individual Work, whole class teaching, projects, themes and topics. Children with specific learning difficulties — in particular, Reading will be given individual attention and monitored closely by the class teacher. A suitable variety of teaching resources will be used. These will include books, blackboard charts, TV, video and audio equipment, computers, libraries, educational games and practical materials. The Cross Curricular Themes of I.T, E.M.U., Cultural Heritage and Health Education will be suitably addressed. Evaluation and monitoring of childrens progress will be ongoing. Children will be given statutory tests from P3 upwards. Compulsory Keystage testing takes place in P4 and P7. Parental involvement will be maintained through Parent Teacher meetings, annual written reports and individual meetings if appropriate. |
