Teaching Methods PDF Print E-mail

Teaching methods will depend largely on the task and will include whole class, individual and group work.  Pupils will engage in fieldwork.  They will initially gain first-hand experience from their school and its environment, progressing then to the wider environment.  Pupils will be encouraged to ask questions and develop study skills through use of library and reference materials.

DIFFERENTIATION

Differentiation consists of composite classes working on the same topic but at different levels.  Pupils within year groups will be given different worksheets and tasks according to their ability.  They will also be given varying degrees of teacher support.

  • Working together.
  • Talking/listening.
  • Presenting findings.
  • Observing - make good use of senses.
  • Acquiring geography information.
  • Analysing geography information.
  • Location, plan and map skills.
  • Use of simple instruments and equipment, eg weather studies.
  • Identify simple features of landscape.
  • Fieldwork skills - planning, identifying, measuring, sketching, mapping, photography, taping, interviewing, presenting findings.

ATTITUDES

• To develop an attitude of tolerance, co-operation, open-mindedness towards others in life.
• To nurture a concern and appreciation for the environment.
