Pupils will be given an opportunity to develop geographical skills and concepts while acquiring a knowledge and understanding of Northern Ireland, the rest of Europe and the wider world, by means of communication, ie orally, visually, the use of IT, drawing and the written word.

AIMS

  • To develop in the children a sense of location awareness.
  • To arouse children's interest in and curiosity about their environment by exploring, investigating and by use of reference materials.
  • To deepen children's awareness and appreciation of their environment through fieldwork.
  • To widen the child's understanding of himself and his environment and to develop an empathetic understanding by studying other people's cultures and environments around the world.
  • To introduce pupils to the physical environment by studying aspects of weather, landforms, vegetation, soils and animals.
  • To encourage in the pupils a sense of responsibility and respect while working with and sharing resources and to foster an understanding that sharing is basic to the existence of human, animal and plant life.
