PRIMARY 6 OBJECTIVES

As with P5 plus -

1. Have positive reading experiences from a range of texts.
2. Read aloud, with some fluency, a variety of texts for various audiences, i.e. own word, poetry, plays, stories, songs etc.
3. Select appropriate information from a given text, using given techniques, i.e. skimming/scanning.
4. Summarise, retell a piece of reading with some accuracy.
5. Read silently, for pleasure, showing understanding of text.
6. Begin to understand how texts are structured for various purposes, i.e. newspapers, travel brochures, etc, emphasising real world experiences.
7. Have an awareness of authors, illustrators and their materials.
8. Be aware of the thoughts and feelings of book characters.
9. Enhance the use of various sources for reference, i.e. books, micro.
10. Sequence passages.
11. Further broaden vocabulary of words and phrases.
12. Be aware of the variety of print which surrounds them.
13. Use a variety of de-coding skills to identify words.
14. Shared reading experiences.
15. Further enhance proof-reading skills.
