CLASSROOM ORGANISATION The school is organised in classes , thus: Reception, P1 and P2 Mrs Boyle Within all classes a variety of teaching methods are used:-
Depending on the activity the groups are of similar or mixed ability. In their approaches all members of staff will, through effective questioning techniques, listen to, evaluate and discuss pupils’ responses and intervene to provide guidance at appropriate moments. CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT Each class teacher aims to provide: (a) A stimulating, warm and literate environment for his/her pupils. Each classroom should be a literate environment where children’s efforts are valued and where appropriate, displayed. This would include an on-going display of children’s work, captioned friezes, labelled diagrams, wall stories, word banks etc. All children have access to class libraries and are encouraged to change books frequently. Reference books and subject related books are available. RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERY MEMBER OF STAFF Each member of staff is responsible for planning and teaching English Literacy in his/her class and allocates at least 30% of the total teaching time to English/Literacy with regular lessons. Monthly (4 weekly) planning is done using agreed formats and identifies clear learning outcome. The development of good work habits is essential. Pupils are encouraged to organise and to present their work clearly. ICT Pupils are given opportunities to develop literacy skills through the use of ICT. These opportunities are planned for and integrated into literacy teaching, through various software programmes.
