Page 6 of 7 PRIMARY 6 OBJECTIVES Pupils should be able to: (a) Confidently take part in group discussion, listening to what is said and contributing their own ideas in a clear and coherent manner. (b) Recount personal experiences and retell stories from literature, radio or TV. (c) Explain their views and opinions and to draw conclusions - ie - to follow a line of argument or develop a plot. (d) Give explanations and convey instructions to an individual or a group. (e) Understand the importance of taking turns at speaking and to be aware of the listeners role in communication. (f) Value and respect the opinions of others, their peer group. ACTIVTIES AND METHODS (a) Word game, riddles. (b) Group predictions, group doze, group sequencing. (c) TV, radio programmes. (d) Oral report on research (encyclopaedia or other reference books). (e) Newspapers, magazines, comics - discuss headlines, articles of particular interest, advertisements etc, eg - making up a new advertisement or slogan. (f) Talk on an article brought from home (artefacts for history topic), item seen on TV. (g) Or chance - listening to instructions, map drawing (geography). (h) Drama - dramatise a poem, short story, role play. (i) Science/Maths - Predict, give explanations, discuss ideas, problem solving, interpreting graphs, preparing questionnaires. (j) PE - Give and follow instructions. Devise rules for games. (k) Group activities where children arrive at decisions and consensus, eg debating. (l) Depicting local colloquialisms or local dialect, expressions, eg raining cats and dogs. |
