Page 5 of 7 PRIMARY 5 General aims for Talking and Listening Pupils should be able to: (a) Freely communicate using facial expressions, gesture and tone to convey meaning. (b) Contribute usefully and confidently to the discussion. (c) To formulate rules for discussion - Group leader - one talking - others listening. (d) Give explanations or convey instructions or information to an individual or group. (e) Retell stories or factual information in a coherent way. (f) Explore a poem, a story, a concept or problem. (g) To appreciate the rhythm of spoken language - pitch, tone, rhythm and rhyme. (h) Listen to a broadcast. ACTIVITIES AND METHODS (a) Participate in group discussion on given topics or problems. (b) Choose different pupils to lead group to ensure that same children don’t dominate. (c) Emphasise that everyones opinion is very important, and that we can learn from listening to others. How important it is to listen attentively to conversation. (d) Follow instructions exactly, e.g. - explaining how to wrap a present. (e) Child describes how group resolved a simple problem in science. (0 Improvised drama. (g) Presenting drama with and without scripts. (h) Group doze, group predictions and group sequencing procedures. (i) Musical appreciation (j) Develop the complexity of chain stories. |
