Talking and Listening Aims P1-P7 PDF Print E-mail

PRIMARY 4

Objectives (As for P3 plus)

Pupils should be able to:

(a) Talk more fluently with teacher or in a group about events in a story/poem/TV programme and ask and answer questions sensibly.

(b) Share and discuss ideas and feelings with teacher and peers.

(c) Participate in more advanced role play.

(d) Make predictions by developing their reasoning skills.

(e) Discuss and sequence a more complex exercise than in P3.

(f) Give ideas on how to solve a simple problem.

(g) Remember to carry out simple instructions.

ACTIVITIES AND METHODS

(a) Discuss characters in a story in more depth, what words are used to describe them? Why? Would you like them as a friend? Why? Why not?

(b) Ask children what they would do in a given situation?

(c) Ask children to discuss in groups what they think will happen next? Predicting.

(d) Science experiments, practical maths activities, religion, computers

(e) Sequence exercise - make a cup of tea.

(f) Dramatise Bible story/telephone conversation including one-sided conversations - Who am I talking to?

(g) Extended listening games - draw an orange ball inside a small triangle under a large square.

(h) Simple chain stories with words/phrases or sentences added by children around the class. These can be made into book form
