Talking and Listening Aims P1-P7 PDF Print E-mail

Primary 1 - General Aims: ­

Pupils should be able to:

(a) Talk and listen to the teacher.

(b) Talk and listen to each other and within a group.

(c) Listen to, follow and respond appropriately to jingles, rhymes, poems, folk tales, stories, songs and educational broadcasts.

(d) Listen to and respond to oral instructions.

ACTIVITIES AND METHODS

(a) Create a happy classroom environment.

(b) Children tell daily news to the teacher.

(c) They talk about their family, pets, favourite food, favourite toys, friends, i.e. verbalise their own experiences.

(d) Listen to teacher giving instructions, line up for toilet, dinner etc.

(e) Listen to instructions on Radio PE Programme ‘Let’s Move’.

(f) Talk to one another during structured play - pretend to be somebody else, e.g. Wendy house/shop/play.

(g) Repeat jingles and rhymes after teacher.

(h) Join in refrain of familiar poems and songs.

(i) Repeat parts of stories, e.g., 3 little pigs huffed and puffed.

(j) Discussion on Radio and TV Broadcasts, e.g., Words and Pictures.

(k) Listen to stories and rhymes being read.

(l) Encourage the use of greetings, e.g., ‘Good Morning’, ‘Hello’, ‘Bye Bye’ etc.

(m) Oral descriptive games where class guess what’s being described.

(n) Participate in rhyme games, and learn initial sounds.

(o) Circle time - when children hold the magic stone it is their turn to contribute.

(p) Provide pictures and books without words to stimulate conversation and prediction.
