Writing Aims and Objectives P1-P7 PDF Print E-mail

PRIMARY 7 OBJECTIVES

As relevant from P6 plus :

1. To write quickly and legibly, using paragraphs and appropriate punctuation, laying out and presenting work effectively.
2. To demonstrate the ability to work from notes.
3. To develop a reasoned written argument.
4. To develop and use the skills of writing across the curriculum.
5. To produce a piece of writing designed to be read to an audience.
6. To work to a finished piece of writing through drafts showing ability to assess and criticise own work constructively.
7. To use imagery writing.

ACTIVITIES AND METHODS

As relevant from P6 plus:

(a) Punctuating an unpunctuated paragraph.
(b) Rewrite a story containing plenty of conversation as a play giving a group reading.
(c) Use of computer for writing in different ways.
(d) Writing letters to order goods, book a holiday, complaining about poor roads, etc.
(e) Writing commercials for radio or television, e.g. - Tops for footballers, toys for girls, gloves for postmen, (slogans, jingles).
(f) Writing reviews of, e.g. - a snooker match, football match, writing letters of congratulations to winners or commiseration to loser.
(g) Compiling own factual projects on an inventor or invention, gathering material from different sources.
(h) Turning balloons from comic strips into direct speech.
(i) Writing poetry on matters important to them - on occasion give children choice of form of writing they wish to use - poetry, story.
(j) Writing about their experiences in and out of school, i.e. - pupil profile.
(k) Writing rules for a game, making something.
(l) Accurate descriptions of people, places, characters.
