Writing Aims and Objectives P1-P7 PDF Print E-mail

PRIMARY 6 OBJECTIVES

As relevant from P5 plus :

1. To display an understanding of syntax in different forms of writing.
2. To write in narrative form using sequence, climax and conclusion.
3. To use paragraphs and punctuation in keeping with age and ability.
4. To make use of what they hear and read to enhance writing.
5. To present work for various audiences through drafts and edits.
6. To write instructions which can be followed easily.
7. To use a wider range of language in descriptive writing.

ACTIVITIES AND METHODS

As relevant from P5 plus:

(a) Planning a newspaper, magazine article and compiling same using computer.
(b) Compiling a fictional book based on imaginary characters using redrafting, editing skills, paragraphs, illustrations.
(c) Correcting errors of syntax and punctuation as they arise from children’s writing to develop proof-reading skills.
(d) Labelling sentences, true, false, fact or opinion.
(e) Displays of redrafted well-mounted writing.
(f) Poetry, expressing thoughts and feelings.
(g) Writing letters for known audience for a variety of purposes, e.g. - Thank you letters, etc.
(h) Making children aware of devices used by authors to begin and end stories - highlight paragraphs, etc.
(i) Writing character descriptions, assessments taken from their novel reading. Book reviews.
(j) Writing for different purposes, i.e.

- Rewriting factual accounts accurately, i.e. - science experiment / visit.
- Writing imaginative pieces, i.e. - message in a bottle.
- Writing their autobiography for an audience of peers
- Brainstorming of ideas to promote ideas for a poem, story etc.
- Writing sentences with a clear awareness of grammar, i.e. verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs etc, speech.
- Cloze procedure, sequencing activities
- Picture stories
- Comprehension skills
- Use of direct speech/indirect speech.
