Writing Aims and Objectives P1-P7 PDF Print E-mail

PRIMARY 4 OBJECTIVES

As for Primary 3 plus:

1. To understand the function of language in writing.
2. To use socially - acceptable patterns of speech in writing.
3. To provide opportunities to discuss writing leading to redrafting, e.g. - shared writing.
4. To write accurately from direct observation.
5. To write to convey information to others.
6. To extend from real to imaginative writing.
7. To accomplish more advanced labeling, e.g. - in making posters - litter campaign.
8. To use word attack skills as an aid to spelling.
9. Writing for different audiences and purposes.
10.To express feelings and emotions through writing.
11 .Making use of spelling aids, e.g. - word banks/dictionaries.
12.Being aware of common patterns in words.
13.To write simple poems.
14.To enhance their awareness of grammar.
15. To accomplish more advanced comprehension.

ACTIVITIES AND METHODS

As for Primary 3 plus:

(a) Marking written work in the presence of the child, discussing development in spelling, punctuation etc.
(b) Making books for class display or class library.
(c) Choosing and illustrating key sentences from stories. Organising the text in pictures and words, flow charts, life cycles, cartoon strips etc.
(d) Writing from experience and observation.
(e) Providing stimuli for imaginative writing - how will it end?
(f) Reading novels to provide ideas and motivation.
(g) Making use of reference books.
(h) Writing simple poems, letters.
(i) Brainstorming for topics.
(j) Teacher writes with the class sharing experiences and outcome.
(k) Cloze procedure and comprehension. Writing from the point of view of some/something else. Opportunity to use speech bubbles.
