Writing Aims and Objectives P1-P7 PDF Print E-mail

PRIMARY 3 OBJECTIVES

As for Primary 2 plus:

1. To organise written work into sentences using punctuation, (capital letter and full stop).
2. To present work neatly and legibly.
3. To write from a variety of experiences.
4. To be aware of simple rules of spelling and spell correctly common words.
5. To accomplish more advanced labeling across the curriculum. Labeling in maths - shapes. Science pictures. Speech bubbles.
6. To use spelling lists, personal word lists, simple dictionaries as aids to writing.
7. To have a sense of audience and purpose for writing.
8. To begin to express fears and emotions.
9. To name, order and write correctly upper and lower case letters.
10. To be able to use a computer as a writing aid.
11. To begin to demonstrate their awareness of grammar.
12.To accomplish more difficult comprehension exercises.

ACTIVITIES AND METHODS

(a) Work in sentence construction which arises naturally from children’s own writing.
(b) Practice in handwriting skills and placing of words.
(c) Providing experiences which children will want to write about.
(d) The use and display of children’s written work.
(e) Compiling personal alphabet books and word books. Using and making a variety of word webs/banks.
(f) Providing opportunities for, children to write for other audiences, e.g. - cards to friends in hospital, notelets, thank you letters etc.
(g) Reading aloud to other children from their own personal writing.
(h) Expressing personal feelings.
(i) Compiling class books.
(j) Drawing pictures from beginning, middle and end of story.
(k) Predicting endings and organising stories in pictures and/or words.
(l) Use of computer for writing.
(m) Making lists for various activities/menus/invitations.
(n) Simple instructions, e.g. - how to make models, recording experiments.
(o) Simple shape poems.
(p) Learn to spell groups of words with similar patterns.
(q) Making little books of their own.
(r) Shared writing activities.
