Writing Aims and Objectives P1-P7 PDF Print E-mail

PRIMARY 1 OBJECTIVES

1. To Acquire correct letter formation - begin to show control over the size, shape and orientation of letters.
2. To understand that groups of letters form words.
3. To understand the relationships between letters, words and sentences.
4. To acquire the skills of writing left to right.
5. To understand that writing is a means of communication.

ACTIVITIES AND METHODS

(a) Letter formation through sky writing, tracing round shapes, filling in form outline, joining up dots, making letters out of playdough.
(b) Hand/eye co-ordination through finger painting, crayoning and colouring.
(c) Improving manipulative skills by using lacing cards and threading beads.
(d) Labeling on pictures with the help of the teacher.
(e) Left to right picture exercises.
(f) Use a range of drawing implements.
(g) Computer games.
(h) Cursor keys.
(i) Own writing with the teacher’s support.
(j) Teacher acts as a scribe for children.
(k) To begin with a word, then a sentence.
(l) Children make up their own little sentence out of words from reading scheme and copy it into their writing books.
